Nottingham Summer School 2023
This year was the 24th TTA Summer School, hosted by TTA Nottingham at Nottingham University. Taking on this year’s course, which featured 5 hours of taekwondo a day for 6 days, were 8 instructors and students from across the London clubs.
Under the instruction of Grandmaster Loh (9th dan), students from TTA clubs from across the UK had an excellent opportunity to test their limits and advance their training. The course covered all elements of the TTA syllabus, from sparring to step sparring (self-defence), patterns and kicking technique, but with a notable focus this year on jumping kicks.
Over the course of the week students honed their jumping skills to improve their ‘airtime’, vital to being able to deliver advanced techniques while airborne. The course culminated with the chance to test our training with a variety of jumping kick practice. Below you can see TTA London black belts’ flying side kick efforts.
Particular credit should go to students completing Summer School for the first time, among them TTA Barbican’s Jasmine Douglas and Laura Ware-Heine. The course can be demanding, but was approached with the enthusiasm and had work that enabled its debutants to get maximum benefit our of this great training opportunity.
The TTA London clubs want to thank TTA Nottingham for hosting us and for being fantastic training partners throughout the week, in an environment that allowed us to push ourselves and learn a lot about our training needs for the months ahead. And we want to thank Grandmaster Loh for his invaluable instruction and guidance, with many lessons that we have taken away for the rest of 2023, the New Year and beyond.
