Nottingham Summer School 2024
TTA Nottingham hosted the 25th Annual Summer School event, comprising of six days of training from Sunday 15th September to Friday 20th September 2024. This year six students from TTA London Barbican participated in this great training opportunity taught and led by Grandmaster Loh, 9th dan, Chief Instructor of the TTA.
Luisa Liu, 2nd dan, reports back upon her experience below:
”As we reflect on how quickly this year’s Summer School has passed, I see instructors and students already preparing for the next one. It takes a reasonable amount of mental and physical preparation, which never seems enough when you are actually going through the six-day long taekwondo “retreat”, hosted by Nottingham University’s TTA club.
”Regardless of the level or how many times I have attended Summer School, there are always valuable takeaways from Grandmaster Loh’s teaching and guidance, and it will consistently push you until you find that little “beyond” your limits.
”Each day was an opportunity to refine the kicking, punching, blocking, waist twisting, hip rotation and sparring drill techniques we had learnt earlier in the week, improving where we found gaps. This year, there was a particular emphasis on understanding our bodies and muscles, exploring new approaches to stretching and warming up, and laying the foundation for higher level poomsae (pattern) practice.
”Summer School challenged both mind and body every day, but leaving me with no other spare thoughts —only deep focus and inspiration (and pain, good pain, of course). Your peers will be there to go through the challenging exercises with you, and to cheer on your achievements.
”I am grateful for Grandmaster Loh’s and Mr. David Loh’s teachings, and for UoN TTA for making this experience possible.”
