Nottingham Summer School 2019
The annual 22nd Summer School was held in Nottingham from 15th to 21st September 2019, led by Grandmaster Loh, 9th Dan. London TTA and Sussex TTA were represented by 13 members, including students and instructors, ranging from red tag (4th kup) to 4th Dan Black Belt.
A huge thanks goes to TTA Nottingham University for their impeccable organisation and friendly hospitality, and Grandmaster Loh for the incredible training opportunity and valuable experience.
The following are Annecy’s and Luisa’s recollections on the experience:
“First time I went to Summer School I had no expectations at all, apart from the stories I heard from the Seniors. The intensity of the training was a shock for my body and tested the limits of my stamina. Coming back for the following years, the intensity has not changed, but I go back to Summer School more mentally prepared. Every year I set goals for myself whether is getting closer to a perfect box split or gaining more knowledge on sparring techniques. Also I have the desire to show that I have improved from the previous times, and I understand and appreciate more Grandmaster Loh’s teachings”.

“As a first-timer, Summer School was both a physical and mental challenge for me. A challenge I have subconsciously accepted, working hard, day by day, in order to bring my skills to the next level. Time flew by, and I found myself at the end of the 6th day feeling pretty sore, but extremely grateful for the valuable experience, for Grand Master Loh’s teachings and fellow team’s support.
Summer School was also a great opportunity to get to know the members of the club better. During classes, we do not have often the time to socialise, but it was a real pleasure and a lot of fun to chat around dinners and watch movies together.
To anyone still undecided whether attending or not the TTA Summer School, I would definitely recommend to give it a try, as it will a memorable and valuable experience”.
