History of TTA London

2005

The Barbican club starts training at Golden Lane under instructor Mr Jake Bender (then 2nd Dan).

 

2007

The first London students go to competition in Glasgow.

 

2008

London students attend Nottingham Summer School for the first time.

 

2009

Andy Hopper becomes London’s first student to reach black belt.

 

2013

Ms Jemima Kingsley and Ms Sarah Garrett (then both 2nd Dan) start the Southwark club.

 

2014

The 1st London Weekend Sparring Course is held, and runs annually until 2019.

2017

Louise Mayor becomes the Southwark club’s first student to reach black belt.

 

2018

The Charlton club starts training, instructors are Ms Esi Eshun (then 2nd Dan) and Mr Romuald Kouassi (then 1st Dan).

 

London wins the TTA Individual Championships. For following competitions, London competes as separate clubs.

Mr Anthony Cornwell and Ms Foong (then both 2nd Dan) become instructors for the Barbican club.

2019

The Peckham club starts training, instructor is Ms Louise Mayor (then 2nd Dan). Mr Patrick Callaghan (2nd Dan) joins her in 2021.

 

Emma and Amber from the Southwark club become London’s first children to reach black belt.

 

2020

The Tower Bridge club starts training, instructor is Ms Sarah Garrett (then 3rd Dan). Two weeks later, the first COVID lockdown means all TTA clubs stop training. Within two weeks, all London clubs are training remotely via Zoom.

2021

London holds a black belt grading.

Samel becomes the first Charlton student to reach black belt.

 

2022

All London training and TTA courses and competitions resume post-COVID.

 

2023

Mr Ilias Zapantis (2nd Dan) becomes the Tower Bridge club instructor, joined by Mr Paddy Ellen (3rd Dan) in 2024.

Kerby Salazar becomes Peckham’s first student to reach black belt.

Barbican wins the TTA Individual Championships.
